The Tourism Authority of Thailand targets to have 2008 tourist arrivals from 20 million to 16 million. Mass tourism market will be avoided as the Tourism Authority of Thailand will pursue more quality travelers. This will throw away the assumption that Thailand is a cheap travel destination.

The newly appointed governor Pornsiri Manoharn said the target was still too high and did not meet the goal to becoming the world's leading quality travel destination. In an exclusive interview, she said that Thailand tourism can move up as the clear signs have been taken where most of the hotels have increased the room rates despite the undesirable factors.

Flash back to the history, Thailand has been marketing the tourism industry since 40 years ago to attract visitors. Pornsiri also said it was time to change the national tourism strategy to pursue quality travelers. The Tourism Authority of Thailand shall provides new tactics bring tourist from the regular market while exploring new markets from Middle East and Eastern Europe. Thailand shares 65% of travelers from Asia Pacific. TAT will approach golfers and honeymooners in the South Korea, female travelers and elderly in Japan including family travelers in India.

Pornsiri also pointed out, the Thailand tourism brand is culture, destinations and attractions and the marketing strategy should not be limited.
She also added that  Thailand was now competing with 170 countries around the world but we still proud to have 55% of the travelers are repeaters.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand will reintroduce the campaign " Amazing Thailand " giving more intention to excite travelers culture, destinations and attractions. This year TAT will target to have 14,8 million travelers or 18% higher than 2006 with the total spending of up to 547 billion Thai Bath or 13% increase than 2006.

The New Year festivities are over and we wish you all had a good holiday time! Have a great year 2007 with good health and prosperous business. At The Mangosteen Resort, celebrations were interesting as usual with many shows by our staff, a big party introducing the new season which promises to be great for everybody.

The year however does not start without problems. Thailand still has some difficult path back to democracy and the recent bombings in Bangkok have shown that there will be obstacles. We are not expecting this task to be an easy one. Phuket however is far away from Bangkok politics, security is very good and there is no reason to worry. As tour operator or agent, it will be important to explain this to the traveler.

Another discussion recently in the news was the appreciation of the Thai Baht which was higher than any other currency in Asia. The unhealthy development is hurting exports and the tourism industry as well and despite the government trials to intervene, we expect the Baht to remain strong and even stronger during the year.

The Mangosteen Resort is a boutique style accommodation secluded on the tranquility atmosphere in Phuket. Providing a great romantic hideaway for a ultimate holiday experience. It features spacious luxurious villas with natural cool design. Each villa is equipped with modern amenities.
